🍀 Luck or Karma? Planting Your Own Four-Leaf Clover🍀

It often seems like some people are just born "lucky." Their lives appear effortless, and things always seem to fall perfectly into place.

While I believe it is true that privilege exists—whether that is being born into wealth, a healthy gene pool, or environments that promote growth—we rarely see the full scope of someone else’s circumstances. Where we perceive "luck" in others, we might be overlooking the areas where our own lives are quietly thriving.

The danger of focusing on luck is that it leads us straight into the trap of comparison. When we tell ourselves, "They’re just lucky," or "I could never have that," we inadvertently create excuses to stay where we are.

In the yoga tradition, we look at this through the lens of Karma.

To many, karma is simplified to "what goes around comes around" (or the classic "Karma is a b*tch"). There are many ways to view karma, but at its core, karma is simply the cosmic law of cause and effect. It is the energy we put out into the world returning to us. It is the intentions we set.

I think of karma as the seeds you plant. Every action, intention, and thought creates a specific energy. Karma isn’t a system of divine punishment; it is a cosmic balance—a natural law reacting to the forces you’ve put into motion.

So, what seeds are you choosing to plant this St. Patrick’s Day? Instead of waiting for a stroke of luck, remember that you have the agency to cultivate your own growth. Will the seeds you plant today be the ones that sprout your four-leaf clover tomorrow?
