Moksha - Finding True Freedom this Independence Day

Amy Danigole | JUL 4

My Independence Day morning walk/run was accompanied by an old yoga playlist as the soundtrack. I had titled it “The American Dream.”

As I worked through the miles, lines of each song grabbed me and reminded me of the struggles we all face in our search for freedom within ourselves and as a collective. I've always expressed myself best through songs and lyrics, so here’s the collection of one-liners that grabbed me (and a link to the full playlist)

For What It’s Worth - Buffalo Springfield

“Paranoia strikes deep, into your life it will creep. It starts when you’re always afraid”

Freedom - Anthony Hamilton, Elayna Boynton

“In time the sun’s gonna shine on me nicely”

Cry Freedom - Dave Matthews Band

“The future is no place to place your better days”

Pursuit of Happiness - Kid Cudi

“Everything that shines ain’t always gonna be gold”

Liberated - DeJ Loaf, Leon Bridges

“So many things in the world I don’t understand, I won’t judge who you love or your brown skin”

Dream On - Aerosmith

“I know it’s everybody’s sin, you gotta lose to know how to win”

Ain’t No Reason - Brett Dennen

“Love will come set me free, I do believe”

Be Set Free - Langhorne Slim

“We can be set free, we can know peace”

American Oxygen - X Ambassadors

“I say, if you can’t see, just close your eyes and breathe”

These songs map out the journey we take when we practice yoga. In the yoga tradition, we call it Moksha—which is ultimate inner freedom and liberation.

Through these tracks, we see what it takes to get there. We eliminate the trappings of fear, unmask illusions, step into unconditional love, and embrace the resilience of growth. And the best part? We can find all of that right on our mats.

After the celebrations of freedom with family and friends, I’d love for you to join me this Sunday morning at 9AM at MPower for a slow flow to find your own inner freedom.

I will also be back to my regular schedule at 7PM on Tuesday - Yin Yoga.

Plus.......don't forget the fun practice this week at Bayou Terrebonne Distillers on Wednesday, July 8 at 5:30PM [Click here to register]

In the meantime, [here is the link to save the playlist and give it a listen]. Take it with you on your own walk, run, or practice this weekend.

I hope this day gives you the freedom you deserve and celebrate!

Keep Seeking UP!

Amy
