You are what you eat—and it’s not just protein 😉

You are what you eat—and it’s not just protein 😉

I’ve watched more “what I eat in a day” reels that I care to admit.
Usually, the clickbait is a fit, mid-life person trying to show me how they have their diet all figured out—insinuating that if I just consume these exact things, I’ll look just like them.
My sister shared a reel with me the other day that was captioned: “I feel more pressure to eat protein than I did to do illegal drugs as a teen.” 🤣🤣🤣
All of these messages can make us feel like we constantly need to fix something.
Health is wealth, and focusing on ourselves through nutrition and movement is a massive part of our well-being. But I’ll be honest: even though I prioritize these things, I’ve struggled with the weight of these messages. A huge part of my life enjoyment comes from a lack of restriction—from actually enjoying my life—and it’s hard to reconcile that with a digital feed constantly telling me I’m doing it "wrong."
But I've realized that consumption doesn’t stop at what’s on our plate. While maintaining lean muscle and mobility is vital for our physical bodies, another big part of the "work" is creating a balanced life that keeps us mentally and emotionally regulated. We have to look at the other things we consume—like the noise hounding us to change. True wellness can be achieved without extreme restriction.
If we are living our yoga practice, we are always in the “work.” But there is a deep care in understanding that work does not mean fix. The work is the consistency that creates embodiment. You can do all of the “things,” but until you actually feel them, you’ll be left unfed. Like any practice, we have to live it.
Embodiment isn't a destination; it's found in the exhale. It’s that deep sigh on the mat where you finally feel the surrender. It’s the moment of pure joy where you allow yourself a real belly laugh. It’s in those quiet, everyday moments when you simply take the time to sit with yourself and realize that you are already whole.
