Want to go on an adventure? It’s always great to take your practice somewhere new!
Before we begin, we will take a moment to absorb the significance of where we are. Port Hudson was the site of a 48-day siege during the Civil War—the longest in American history. The very bluffs and ravines we will be hiking were once critical defensive fortifications.
The Museum is open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and our schedule will allow plenty of time for you to explore the exhibits and artifacts either before we start or after our final stretch!
Meet at the Visitor Center / Museum Area at 10:00 AM — follow signage upon entering the park.
(Note: There is a $6 per person entrance fee to Port Hudson State Historic Site not included in registration. Seniors 62+ are $4.)
We’ll find our space in a shaded area near the museum, letting the natural landscape guide our practice. We’ll begin our day here with a grounding yoga session, fully immersed in the quiet energy and deep history of the bluffs.
From here, we will hike approximately 4.5 miles of the 6-mile trail system, traversing the high ridges and deep ravines that make this park one of the most unique hiking spots in Louisiana. We’ll break to connect to our breath and enjoy the silence for a bit, then enjoy a trail lunch at the Bennet’s Redoubt area (Please plan to carry your own lunch, snacks, and water.)
Upon returning to our starting area, we will finish the day with a deep-release yoga stretch and reflect on our experience together!
Things to Note:
Minimum Age: 10 years old. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a registered parent/guardian.
Park Entry: Admission is $6 per person (ages 7-61).
Difficulty Level: This is a full-day event. Port Hudson features unique topography for our area; the trails include some elevation changes, steep ravines, and wooden footbridges. Please ensure you are comfortable with hilly, uneven terrain.
This is a full day event including yoga and hiking. While we will go at our own pace and this is not considered a "strenuous" trail, please be aware that the terrain includes natural obstacles such as tree roots, uneven soil, sand, and slight inclines. Please use your best discretion in assessing your own physical capabilities and personal limitations before joining.
